Howard S. Shafer has been invited to speak on Tavern Owner Liability, Bar Fights and Dram Shop Update at an upcoming Continuing Legal Education Program co-sponsored by the Torts, Insurance and Compensation Law Section and the Committee on Continuing Legal Education of the New York State Bar Association in New York City. The program is entitled: Premises Liability – What You Need to Know in New York.

Timothy M. Wenk has been invited to speak at an upcoming conference in New York City titled Understanding Bedbugs: Essentials for property and facility managers, sponsored by the National Pest Management Association, the American Hotel and Lodging Association, the National Apartment Association, the Association of College and University Housing Officers International and the U.S. EPA’s Pesticide Environmental Stewardship Program. Timothy will discuss the legal and regulatory landscape.

Howard S. Shafer has been elected Vice-Chair of the Corporate Counsel Section of the New York State Bar Association.

 

 

 

Melissa Y. Wu participated on the planning committee for the program Intellectual Property for In-House Counsel Critical Issues, Fresh Ideas, and Best Practices, presented by the Corporate Counsel Section of the New York State Bar Association for their Annual Meeting Program.

 

 

Howard S. Shafer had his article entitled "CPLR Article 16 – The Case for Meaningful Limitation of Liability” published in the summer 2010 edition of the Torts, Insurance and Compensation Law Journal.

Mika M. Mooney had summary judgment granted in a false imprisonment and defamation case brought against a security company. The case arose out of a suspected shoplifting incident and resulting stop and search of the customer’s bags.

 

 

 

 

Shafer Glazer’s David A. Glazer and Mika M. Mooney had summary judgment against the firm’s client reversed by the Appellate Division, First Department in a case involving the interpretation of New York City’s Administrative Code and excavation in connection with the construction of a new building.
